Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage yesterday (9) ordered the recall of the warrant issued on Wednesday to the second suspect, Ven.Borelle Sirisumana Thera, who was arrested and released on bail for aiding and abetting the money fraud committed by the owner of Thiko Group, Thilini Priyamali, who is said to have defrauded businessmen of millions of rupees.
Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage had issued warrants to the suspect monk because he failed to appear in court when two cases were taken up before the Magistrate’s court yesterday.
The magistrate issued this order after considering the suspect’s request to recall the warrant by filing a motion yesterday through his lawyer Thilina Weerasinghe.
The magistrate, who said that he had filed a motion after failing to appear previously as well, on the appointed date, warned the suspect that he should come to court on the next hearing day.
Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage issued an order to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to file a separate case against Thilini Priyamali, the owner of the Thilko Group, and Janaki Siriwardena, the director of the Chris Group, on the charges of violating court orders in the case of allegedly defrauding businessmen of millions of rupees.
The magistrate issued this order when the CID informed court that Janaki Siriwardena, one of the suspects in this case, was not supporting the investigation and avoiding submitting necessary documents.The police informed court that suspect Thilini Priyamali had not reported to the CID last Sunday, and that they were not properly assisting the investigation.
The magistrate ordered the suspect Janaki Siriwardena to go to the CID and give a statement subsequent to being notified by them.
The Criminal Investigation Department informed court the voice of suspect Thilini Priyamali needs to be tested. The Magistrate ordered to refer Priyamali to the Government Analyst’s Department for voice test.
