Although various forces are trying to destroy the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), the party will be rebuilt as a strong political movement in the country,” former President, MP Maithripala Sirisena told Parliament yesterday.
He said that a few people representing the government are occupying the Sri Lanka Freedom Party by force and it is an insult to the Court to obstruct MP Dayasiri Jayasekara who went to take over the office based on a Court decision.
Certain people in the government have occupied the Sri Lanka Freedom Party headquarters by force amidst the crisis within the party. What an insult to the Court the way that Police acted not allowing to implement the Court’s decision for MP Dayasiri Jayasekara to enter the SLFP headquarters. I am also asking in this House how wrong it is for the government and the Police for their involvement against decisions given by Court.
“Crisis in a political party is not new in this country. But we are clearly against the state intervention in this crisis without letting the party solve its internal problems. We condemn it. “One of the Ministers of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party made a statement to the media that Maithrie’s next stop would be either Angoda or Welikada. Accordingly, is a Minister of the government preparing to send me to jail by influencing the judiciary? I know there are some people who want to send me to jail,”he said.
“Today, the organisers of our Sri Lanka Freedom Party are being threatened. Some of them have taken to the CID. As the former Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, I am saying that no matter what challenges come our way, we will unify the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and make it a strong political movement in the future. We sacrifice our lives for that,”he said. Minister Mahinda Amaraweera:- I didn’t say anything about Angoda or Welikada. Those who should go to Angoda will go to Angoda soon.
