Veteran Bollywood actor Nana Patekar dies at 75 after cardiac arrest

Veteran Indian actor and filmmaker Nana Patekar has died at the age of 75 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa, Indian media reported on Thursday (Oct. 8).

Patekar was found unconscious at his home in Dona Paula, Goa, and rushed to Manipal Hospital, where doctors attempted to revive him for approximately 45 minutes.

According to Dr. Shekhar Salkar, chief of the oncology department at Manipal Hospital, the actor was declared dead at around 5:20 a.m. despite continuous cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Hospital authorities said a medico-legal case had been registered and a post-mortem examination would be conducted.

His son, Malhar Patekar, confirmed the death to The Indian Express, saying he was travelling from Pune to Goa and would issue a detailed statement.

Patekar was among India’s most celebrated actors, known for his distinctive dialogue delivery and powerful performances in Hindi and Marathi cinema.

His career spanned more than four decades, with memorable roles in films including Parinda, Krantiveer, Agni Sakshi, Ab Tak Chhappan, Welcome and Natsamrat.

He also directed the critically acclaimed film Prahaar: The Final Attack.

Patekar received several prestigious awards during his career, including three National Film Awards. He was honoured with the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award, in 2013 for his contribution to the arts.

Beyond cinema, he was involved in charitable initiatives supporting farmers and rural communities in Maharashtra.

His death marks the loss of one of the most recognisable figures in Indian cinema. (Newswire)
