‘Hela Kalaketha’ a book based on local dancing traditions, written by veteran dancing teacher and visiting lecturer at Sri Jayewardenepura University, Narthana Kala Shiromini Chandrakanthi Shilpadipathi, was launched recently at the BMICH in Colombo during a ceremony under the patronage of Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana.
The keynote address at the event, which also included colourful local dances and cultural events, was delivered by retired professor Lionel Bentharage of the University of Performing and Visual Arts.
The Minister who spoke at the event said that yeomen service rendered by Piyasara Shilpadipathi and Kanthi Shilpadipathi as artistes will be etched in Sri Lankan art history.
The Minister said no matter what field of education one engages in it is a privilege for a student to be guided by a respected generation of teachers to hone their skills and creative abilities in the arts field. The Minister also stated that as a youngster he closely followed various art creations centered on the Lumbini Vidyalaya theatre. He said that the experiences gained through that are a guiding light for his creative life even today.
Senior Professor J.B. Dissanayake, Professor Preneeth Abeysundara and other university professors and scholars, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries Anusha Gokula and Chairman/CEO of Development Lotteries Board Ajith Naragala, too were present among others.
The book launch was held under the patronage of Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana.
