He commenced his sports career in 2013 and he participated for the school inter house annual athletic sports meet and he was in Grade Three and did 100 metres and came second and in the following year he did 200 metres and came third and in Grade five he did 100 metres and came second.
With these deeds under his belt he was a unanimous choice for the under 15 team and scored 258 runs with two fifties and in the following year he scored 358 runs with four fifties and captured 43 wickets but he was not considered for the District Team for the Prima Cup.
When he was in Grade Four he took part in swimming and did 50 and 100 free style and he won a Gold Medal for 50 metres and a Bronze Medal for 100 meres. In this context his uncle’s Sajeewa Nishantha Peiris, Pasindu Peiris, Saminda Pathirana and Rohitha Ranasinghe are helping him in various ways in his cricket career. His coaches were Besil Jinendra, Mr. Pubudu. and Dilan Gunawardene. Presently Vihanga is in the Colombo District under 19 cricket pool and they are looked after by District Coach Ajith Weerasinghe.
