Visa free entry for nationals from seven countries till March 31

A free Visa scheme is implemented for nationals of China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Thailand, Malaysia and Japan from November 27, 2023 until March 31,2024, the Immigration and Emigration Department announced. This programme has been launched as a pilot project in order to rebuild the Sri Lankan tourism industry in line with the Cabinet of Ministers Approval 23/1885/602/023 dated October 24.

Foreign nationals belonging to above listed free visa countries to travel to Sri Lanka who possess Diplomatic, Official, Public Affairs, Service and Ordinary passports are eligible to use the free visa regime under this newly implemented programme. Before arriving in Sri Lanka, foreign nationals from these seven listed countries need to apply for Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) subject to granting and issuing visas free up to March 31, 2024.

Tourists from these seven countries will be able to enjoy a 30 days free visa period along with a double entry facility which is permitted from the date of first arrival to Sri Lanka within 30 days time under this special scheme. Foreign nationals from these countries can apply for free Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) upto March 31,2024 and this free ETA cannot be extended further than the specified period and is limited only up to 30 days. In case the free ETA period of 30 days from the arrival date in Sri Lanka expires after March 31 2024, an extension of visa can be applied subject to payment of the required fee for extension.
