Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka produced a sensational display of power-hitting, smashing the fastest century in Caribbean Premier League history for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots against the Saint Lucia Kings.
Shanaka raced to his century in just 39 deliveries before finishing unbeaten on 121 off 43 balls, an innings featuring eight fours and 12 sixes. He ended with a strike rate of 281.39.
The 39-ball century also equalled Shanaka’s own record for the fastest T20 hundred by a Sri Lankan, having previously reached three figures in the same number of deliveries in Sri Lankan domestic cricket.
His CPL effort broke the tournament’s previous 40-ball century record, which had been shared by Andre Russell, Tim Seifert and Shimron Hetmyer.
Shanaka’s explosive innings powered the Patriots to 235 for four before they bowled out the Kings for 98 to seal a commanding 137-run victory.
The innings also marked Shanaka’s fourth century in T20 cricket and underlined the 34-year-old’s reputation as one of Sri Lanka’s most destructive power-hitters. (Newswire)
