“We are following a ‘Sri Lanka First’ policy”

Foreign Minister Ali Sabry, PC yesterday said that the country’s foreign policy is ‘Sri Lanka First’ and the Government will not do anything that will cause loss to the country.

The Minister stated this in Parliament yesterday (10) while answering a question raised by Member of Parliament Dayasiri Jayasekara.

The Minister further said: “All agreements negotiated and signed with India are transparent and improve the relations between the two countries. They can be presented to the Parliament. Currently, India has become the fifth largest economic power in the world. Everyone has accepted that it will become the biggest economic power of the three by 2030. It is said that it will become the second economic power in the world by 2050. Sri Lanka has many special needs. We need to manage the challenges and make the most of the opportunities that come our way. We shouldn’t be prisoners of history. We should take advantage of the opportunities in a new way to develop our country. We are not doing these things blindly. We have the needs of our country as our first priority.”
