We must observe R. Premadasa wicket ahead of next two matches, says Sadeera

Batting on the R. Premadasa pitch is not easy at the early stages but I had the confidence to build up my innings which was my career-best ODI innings said Sadeera Samarawickrama.

My goal was to build the team’s momentum and give my support by playing a good innings said Sadeera Samarawickrama who was named the Man of the Match in the last Asia Cup match against Bangladesh on Saturday (9).

I am a wicket-keeper and batsman but recently I was assigned to field at a different position. I am included as a reserve wicket-keeper and Kusal Mendis is our regular ODI wicket keeper. I train hard to be a fit fielder, however, I am more concerned about my batting said Samarawickrama who was the former St. Joseph’s Colombo skipper.

Our team has established a remarkable feat with 13 consecutive ODI wins just behind Australia’s record of 21 victories. We look forward to the opportunity to show our prowess once again, said Sadeera Samarawickrama.

On this Premadasa International wicket, we had plans to pass the 250-run mark. We saw from the start a difficulty with our batting, both myself and Kusal Mendis repaired the innings after losing two early wickets. Pathum Nissanka had done well in his innings.

Sadeera said the wicket was normal but they had a bit of luck to go their way in the innings. We already played at Pallekele, Lahore in Pakistan. We must observe the R. Premadasa wicket going forward as we have two big games against India and Pakistan before the Asia Cup final, said Sadeera. Samarawickrama, the stylish right-hander joined the National side as a Test player having played 8 Test matches, 20 ODIs and 9 T-20s. He has scored 550 ODI runs and also made his highest individual score of 93 against Bangladesh.
