Advisory for heavy rain and strong winds/ rough seas has been issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Meteorology Department.
While issuing a advisory weather forecast the department said due to the active South West monsoon conditions over the island, there is a possibility of the prevailing showery condition enhancing in tbe south-western part of the Island.Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Trincomalee via Galle and Hambantota. Heavy showers/ thundershowers may occur at some places.
Accordingly, temporarily strong gusty winds up to (60-70) kmph can be expected during thundershowers. The sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Trincomalee via Galle and Hambantota will be rough at times.
Therefore, the Naval and fishing communities are also requested to be attentive in this regard.
