The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre has issued an amber advisory for strong winds and rough seas in several coastal areas, urging naval and fishing communities to remain vigilant.
The advisory, issued at 10:30 a.m. today (22), will remain valid until 10:30 a.m. tomorrow (23).
Sea areas from Kankesanthurai to Chilaw via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota are expected to be rough at times, with strong gusty winds of 50-60 kmph.
Wave heights could also increase to between 2 and 2.5 metres in sea areas from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Matara.
Naval and fishing communities have been advised to exercise caution. (Newswire)
