Weather: Strong wind advisory issued for several coastal areas

The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber advisory warning of strong winds and rough seas in several coastal areas around Sri Lanka, valid until 11 a.m. on Thursday.

The advisory, issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, covers the sea areas extending from Pottuvil to Hambantota and from Kalpitiya to Mullaitivu via Mannar and Kankasanthurai.

According to the department, sea conditions off the coasts from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Kalpitiya to Mullaitivu via Mannar and Kankasanthurai will be rough at times, with strong gusty winds of 50 to 60 kmph.

Naval and fishing communities have been urged to remain vigilant and monitor future forecasts and advisories. (Newswire)
