Strong winds of 40-50 kmph are expected at times over the Central, Sabaragamuwa, North Central and North Western provinces, as well as the Monaragala, Hambantota, Trincomalee and Mannar districts due to the active southwest monsoon conditions, the Department of Meteorology said.
The department warned that the strong winds could damage roof tiles and sheets, power and communication lines, uproot trees, and affect paddy fields, banana and papaya crops, orchards, harbour yachts, and cause sea water inundation in low-lying coastal areas.
The public has been advised to exercise caution, avoid hazards from damaged structures, fallen trees and power lines, remain alert to changing weather conditions, follow future weather advisories, and contact local disaster management authorities in case of emergencies. (Newswire)
