Pakistan cricketers Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq have been questioned by the country’s National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Lahore as authorities investigate alleged dressing-room information leaks during Pakistan’s troubled Test tour of England.
The two players appeared before the NCCIA at its Johar Town office on Thursday after being summoned by the agency, according to Pakistani media reports.
Reports said the investigation was launched following a complaint by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), with Rizwan and Imam questioned about alleged leaks from the dressing room as well as their contacts and meetings during training sessions and matches in England.
The players’ mobile phones are also undergoing forensic and technical analysis, while investigators are reportedly examining their financial dealings and transactions before and during the England series. Payments involving companies, individuals or organisations are among the matters being reviewed, according to Geo News, citing sources.
However, the NCCIA has not announced any finding of wrongdoing against either player.
Rizwan and Imam have reportedly requested additional time to provide written responses to questions raised during the investigation.
The development comes amid a separate internal disciplinary inquiry launched by the PCB into reports concerning player discipline and conduct during the England tour. The board has said the inquiry is being conducted under its regulations but has declined to comment further while the process is underway.
Rizwan and Imam were among seven players sent back to Pakistan following the team’s heavy defeat in the second Test at Lord’s.
Pakistan lost the Lord’s Test by 194 runs after also suffering a heavy defeat in the opening Test, triggering major changes to the touring squad and coaching setup. (Newswire)
