An Indian woman, who illegally brought a consignment of jewellery worth Rs.120 million to Sri Lanka, weighing 5 kg and 500 grams, was arrested by a group of officials of the Customs Narcotics Control Division at the arrival terminal of Katunayake Airport in the early hours yesterday (22).
She is a 35-year-old Indian woman married to a person from Kandy area of Sri Lanka and therefore she has got a resident visa to live in this country. She had arrived at Katunayake Airport with her two small children yesterday at 12.30 in the morning from Dubai on Emirates Airline flight EK-648.
Customs officials said that she used a special belt tied around her waist and concealed the 1,438 pieces of jewellery arranged in eight parcels in it and in her handbag.Katunayake Airport Customs officials have detained her.
