Public Security Minister Tiran Alles joined by the IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon opened the renovated and air-conditioned canteen and gymnasium at Narahenpita Police Station on Friday (14).
This canteen and the gymnasium was renovated under the instructions of the Public Security Minister with the guidance of the IGP and under the supervision of SSP Neranjan Abeywardena in charge of Colombo South, costing around Rs. 3 million to carry out the renovation work. The renovation work was completed with the contributions by the Civil Security Department officers and provisions separated by the Police Reward Fund towards the task.
Minister Alles said: “We continue to do everything possible for the welfare of all of you. The bata was removed and the food and lodging allowance was brought in at a great expense. Given the economic situation in this country, it was a very difficult task. But the President accepted my request and gave us the necessary money. “But you all know that we have not been able to pay the whole amount since January due to lack of money. We paid the full amount for the months we could. But the balance amount will be paid back within the three months of January, February and March in full.
“Under the initiative of the IGP, the SSP in charge of Colombo South, the DIG of the Western Province, the DIG in charge of the Colombo Range, I thank all of them for the work they are doing in these Police stations.
“I expect the same thing from all of you when we do all these things for you. That is, do your duty properly. Work in a manner that is appreciated by the public. If there is anyone among you who is turning to wrong things, try to correct them too. Keep in mind that we will do a great service to this country as a family in the future. By that, the public will help us more in the Police work in the future. We can then further improve welfare activities.”
DIG of the Western Province Mahinda Gunaratne, DIG in charge of the Colombo Range Jagath Chandrakumara, SSP in charge of Colombo South Neranjan Abeywardena and a large number of Police officers joined the event.
