WSI interdicted for not recording value of stolen items

The Moneragala Division Senior Superintendent of Police has taken action to interdict a Woman Sub-Inspector of the Medagama Police who had written down a complaint on breaking into the house and stealing property without noting the value of the theft.

A senior Police officer said the incident occurred while recording a complaint regarding a burglary and theft of a house located on Lunudallagoda road in Medagama Senapathiya area.

When the owner of the house,a businessman, submitted his complaint to the Medagama Police, he clearly told the police that clothes worth Rs.125,000 and glassware worth Rs. 25,000 were stolen from his house, but the senior Police officer said that it was revealed during the investigation that the female police officer did not write it down intentionally. Information has been received by the Police Headquarters as well as the National Police Commission that many Police stations avoid recording complaints about theft to show the lack of crime and that some Police stations are not doing enough to record the values of properties. According to Police information, the Moneragala Division SSP has taken steps to suspend her as it appears that this WSI working at the Medagama Police Station has also committed such an act.
