Sri Lanka Police and the Special Task Force (STF) arrested a total of 1,038 suspects during the countrywide special joint operation ‘Yukthiya’ (Justice), conducted between 12.30 a.m. on January 03 till 12.30 a.m. on January 04.
Out of the total of 1,038 suspects that were arrested, 67 suspects are being investigated further on detention orders, the Ministry of Public Security stated.
During the raids that were carried out across the country, a wide range of drugs were seized from different parts of the island.
The police seized 417 grams of heroin, 205 grams of ICE, 2.886Kg of cannabis, 24,203 cannabis plants, 2.159Kg of Mawa, 4.91Kg of Hashish and 722 narcotic pills.
Also, 43 drug addicts have been referred to rehabilitation centres.
Another 84 suspects who were on the list of registered suspects of the Police Narcotics Bureau and the Special Bureau were arrested during this operation.
More than 23,500 suspects have been arrested so far since the countrywide special operation was launched on December 17, 2023.
The Police and the STF has conducted over 23,000 raids thus far during the operation launched in order to curtail drug and underworld-related activities in Sri Lanka.
The Police have also recovered a large quantity of a wide range of narcotics and have also seized several illegally acquired assets, including properties and vehicles, during the multiple raids that have been carried out.
