Beware of fake cops in civvies

Police informs the public to be careful about robbers who pretend to be Police officers.

A number of complaints related to stealing of people’s luggage, vehicles, houses and bicycles by such fraudsters have been reported in various parts of the country.

Except for the officers of Sri Lanka Police’s Narcotics Bureau, Criminal Investigation Department or Special Police Units, Police officers will not carry out searches in civilian clothes and they will also present their official work identification card during the inspection by the officers of those special divisions.

Police also emphasise that one or more officers of the team will be in uniform during a raid by Police officials.

Police inform the public not to provide opportunities for such searches without confirming their identity.

Police also request the public to inform the nearest police station immediately in suspicious cases.
