CID to probe how Rs.60 Mn was credited to Thera’s accounts in a year

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has revealed that Rs.60 million has been credited to three  accounts within a short period of one year, to Ven. Rajanganaye Saddharathana Thera who was taken into custody and remanded in connection with issuing statements through social media that obstructs religious co-existence and national reconciliation.

In addition to these three accounts, it has been discovered that he has several other bank accounts and the CID stated that reports regarding the money in those bank accounts have not yet been received. Information from the CID disclosed that it is suspected that there is a lot of money in those bank accounts as well.

The CID stated that most of the money in the bank accounts had been received from abroad and an investigation is underway to find out about the people who had given the money to him. The CID also said that they are investigating whether this money was sent to him with the aim of destroying religious and national harmony in the country.

Information from the CID also stated that money has been received in the monk’s bank accounts even from England and America and investigations are being carried out to find out whether there are people involved in underworld crimes and illegal activities among those who deposited money in his bank accounts.
