Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha said that there is a need to inculcate discipline in the school system
from pre-school and the Education Ministry should set a precedent by carrying out its pioneering mission.
He said that the education students receive at school to deal with mutual respect without unfair competition is a good foundation for future social progress. He added that the leadership ability that a principal displays in the school makes a major contribution to create a disciplined society.The Minister said this while appointing of new members to the Religious Advisory Board at the Education Ministry.
The Minister also said that it also gets considerable support from well-trained teachers, especially for primary education. Also, the Minister mentioned that the experience gained as a principal is extremely important for an officer to take decisions and act effectively in holding high positions in the Education Ministry later.
The Minister said that through a change in attitude, effective change should be enforced in the school system throughout the country and the weekly school programme which is currently being successfully implemented can contribute to this.
The Minister mentioned that an effective attitudinal change should be brought about in the school system throughout the country and the “Sathimathbawa” programme which is currently being successfully implemented can contribute to this. He pointed out that many schools where students of all religions are educated are free of religious problems. Children who grow up in the school with discipline and mutual respect under such education will live harmoniously as good citizens in society and at work. He said that in order to implement that situation in all the schools, there should be a wide contribution from all religious sectors.
