Gambler robbed of Rs.900,000; three arrested

Homagama Police arrested three persons last Sunday (28) who tricked a trader who is also a gambler to come to a house in Pitipana to gamble and robbed him of Rs.900,000.

“The robbery happened last Wednesday (25). The suspects were arrested after an investigation conducted by the Homagama Police according to a complaint made by the man who was robbed stating that the suspects threatened him with a knife and robbed him,” Homagama Police said.

Suspects are in the ages of 50, 43 and 40. One suspect is a businessman who resides in Homagama while the other two suspects are three-wheeler drivers residing at Pitipana.

Investigations have revealed that the suspects are also hardcore gamblers who met the trader at a gambling den. “The suspects had made a phone call to the trader and lured him to the gambling den at Pitipana. The trader who was also addicted to gambling went there with the money and was robbed,” Police said.

A senior Police officer said that investigations are underway to see if the suspects have committed similar types of robberies before.
