Jaffna political activists’ supporters threaten cops at knife point

Run away from police after being checked

The Kopay Police have started investigations regarding an incident where two supporters of Arun Siddharthan,   who is said to be a political activist in Jaffna, fled after threatening the officers of the Kopay police with a pointed knife.

They are said to have threatened two police officers on traffic duty while pointing a knife at them when the officers stopped the motorcycle they were travelling.

When the two police officers were about to arrest the suspect who was holding a knife, the two suspects had left the motorcycle and some of the documents that were being checked by the police officers and had run away.

The Jaffna Magistrate has ordered to arrest the two and bring them before court after the police submitted information about the incident to the Jaffna court.

Despite the court order, it is reported that some people, including politicians, have begun to put pressure on the Kopay police, demanding that the motorcycle belonging to the suspects be returned and that the suspects should not be arrested.

Arun Siddharthan, meanwhile is in remand until May 2 because he is a suspect involved in an attack in Jaffna.
