Jailer who provided a mobile phone to MP Rishad, transferred

Prison Headquarters has taken steps to transfer a jailor of the Magazine Prison for providing remanded Parliamentarian Rishard Bathiudeen with a mobile phone.

MP Bathiudeen was found using a mobile phone at his cell on September 1.

The suspected jailor has been transfered to the Vavuniya prison with immediate effect.

The mobitel phone has been taken into the officers’ custody and handed over to the Prison Intelligence Unit for further investigations.

Prison Media Spokesman Commissioner Chandana Ekanayake said that this incident would be taken up before the Prison Tribunal for hearing.
