Kandy SC – most prolific rugby team in the country

Since playing their first game they have amassed numerous accolades and are considered one of the most prolific rugby teams in the country.

They are the only club to win the League and the knock-out titles on many occasions. It was in 1992 that Kandy SC won a trophy for the first time and that was the Clifford Cup.

In the same year they were number two in the League under the leadership of Ananda Kasthuriarachchi and in the knock-outs they won their first Cup under Maurice Joachim.

In 1994 they won the League for the first time under Indrajith Bandaranayake. They have grabbed the knock-out trophy on 21 occasions, the highest by any team and the team has created a unique record in club rugby by winning the League for six successive years and 21 times since 1994.

Most of the clubs did all they could to lay their hands on this league title but the proud Kandy side prevented them from snatching it away from their custody with some superb rugby and they continued to walk the local rugby world like a colossus.
