Kenyan who carried cocaine in stomach detained

Negombo Acting Magistrate Nelson Kumaranayake had granted permission to detain a Kenyan who had defecated in a toilet at the Katunayake Airport and released six globules containing cocaine, for investigations at the Narcotics Bureau until November 7.

The Kenyan, Ochibng Boaz Otino, had arrived from Dubai at the Katunayake Airport on the Emirates Flight No. PK 650 on October 31. When he was leaving the airport through the usual channel for passengers, officials of the Customs Inspections Section of the Airport had questioned him on suspicion. Later, he was inspected through an X-ray and something unfamiliar was detected inside his stomach. Subsequently, he had been handed over to Narcotics Bureau Officials who had arranged for him to defecate in an airport toilet.

In the report submitted to the Acting Magistrate, it was mentioned that he had discharged six yellow globules with his stools.

During investigations, the officials had identified these globules as containing cocaine and the suspect was admitted to the Negombo Hospital and kept under the supervision of the Judicial Medical Officers and made arrangements to recover if any more globules in his stomach using laxatives.

Subsequent to Acting Magistrate of Negombo Nelson Kumaranayake visiting the hospital on November 1 and carrying out the Magistrate’s inquiry into the suspect, on a request by officers of the Narcotics Bureau, permission was granted to detain him until November 7 to carry out investigations and report to Court.
