Organised crime, drug rackets will be eliminated by June – Minister
Public Security Minister Tiran Alles said he was confident that organised crime and drug trafficking rackets could be eliminated to a large extent by the end of June this year.
Speaking at an event in Negombo, Minister Alles emphasised that the ongoing countrywide anti-drug operation ‘Yukthiya’ will not be brought to a halt, regardless of any external or internal pressures.
He said a handful of lawyers and other people including some online media operators who depend on the money of drug traffickers are engaged in efforts to disrupt the ongoing operation. The Minister also mentioned various insults made through social media, various complaints to the international community together with some representatives of non-governmental organizations are the main ones.
“We are also paying special attention to the suppression of various forms of abuse of children and women,” he added.
