‘Pandu Karanda’ plants planted in Kataragama

A special programme of planting ‘Pandu Karanda’ plants, centering on the historic Kataragama sacred area began yesterday under the patronage of Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana. Karanda plant has a special importance in the legends associated with Kataragama.

The Minister who paid special attention to this matter, initiated a national programme to protect, nurture and expand the Pandu Karanda plant. This was held at the premises of the Kataragama Museum and Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya Basnayake Nilame Dishan Gunasekara and officials of Road Development Authority and Urban Development Authority also participated.
