Police take charge of infant, boy abandoned by mother in Ambalangoda
A six months old infant and a nine-year-old boy, who were abandoned by their mother were handed over to the Ambalangoda police by a trishaw driver. After presenting the six month old infant at the Balapitiya hospital for treatment, they both were produced before the Balapitiya magistrate. Court ordered both to be handed over to the Kithulampitiya children’s home.
The driver stated that the woman asked him to look after the two children for a short while and disappeared and later the driver decided to hand them over to the Ambalangoda Police as their mother had not returned for the children.
The children had been in extreme hunger and the infant was comforted with great difficulty, the police said. On the instructions of Ambalangoda Police Headquarters Chief Inspector Prasanna Algiriya and CI Renuka Mendis handled the incident.
