Police to obtain statement from woman

The Bambalapitiya Police yesterday (15) informed Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasinghe that the doctor suspected of trying to kill his wife by ingesting an overdose of insulin has had an extra-marital relationship with another woman in the Polonnaruwa area and the Police are working to obtain a statement in this regard to ascertain the fact.

The Bambalapitiya Police submitted a further report to the Court and reported that suspicions have arisen regarding the drugs injected into the suspect’s wife and that her condition is critical and she is still in the Intensive Care Unit of the Kalubowila Hospital.

Police stated before the Court that since the wife who is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit has not regained consciousness so far, it has not been possible to take a statement from her.

The Police also told the Court that they had received information that the suspect was having an affair with a woman in Polonnaruwa and that the woman had been informed to come to the Police and give a verbal statement.

Here, the Police requested a Court order to send the syringe used by the suspect to the Government Analyst and call for a report on what medicine was injected. In addition, the Police asked the Court to order the Prison Superintendent to present him to the Government Analyst’s Office on May 16 to compare the CCTV footage and the suspect’s photos.
