Poonagala elephant attacked another duo in the morning
Koslanda Police said that the wild elephant that attacked a young couple who were inside a tent above Diyaluma Falls also attacked a father and his son on the same day. The attack happened around 6 that morning.
A 42-year-old named Janaka Padmabandhu and his 10-year-old child named Dulshan Induwara, residents of Mawela Madugastalawa area, were attacked by this elephant.
Police said the two have been admitted to Wellawaya Hospital. It has been found that this wild elephant has come from the Poonagala reserve. Wildlife officers together with the police and the villagers drove the elephant back to the Poonagala Reserve that day. A 23-year-old girl who was undergoing training to become a nurse died after being attacked by the elephant and her boy friend has been hospitalized with injuries.
It is said that this couple, said to be nature lovers, has made traveling around the country their hobby.
Meanwhile, the Bandarawela Magistrate courts ordered that two young people said to be tourist guides who entered the Koslanda Udadiyaluma wildlife reservation without permission and helped the couple to erect a tent be remanded till May 25.
