Prisoner escaped wearing jailor’s uniform to kill wife

The death row prisoner who escaped from the prison wearing a uniform similar to ones worn by as a prison guard has confessed during questioning that he escaped prison to kill his wife.

It has been revealed here that the prison officer’s uniform was provided to this prisoner by another prisoner who works in the sewing team at the prison.

This has been revealed by the prisoner during interrogations by the prison investigation team who went to Boossa prison yesterday (29) to record statements from the death row prisoner who escaped from Welikada prison on June 25.

It has also been said that the prison officer’s uniform was sewn for him by another prisoner of the Welikada prison’s sewing team.According to prison sources, he has said that even though he left the Welikada prison, he did not have a firm conclusion about what he would do after that and where his destination would be.

This prisoner was arrested by the prison officials at the Maradana railway station, on the same day he escaped.This prisoner was sentenced to death by the Gampaha High Court in 2015 under murder charges.

Jail records say that he was about 42 years old and was a resident of Pannala, Ulakotuwella.
