A retired Senior Superintendent of Police has handed over a pistol to the Moratuwa Police Station which was issued to the Trincomalee Police in 1988 recorded as missing. The Moratuwa Police stated that there
were 24 rounds of ammunition with the weapon.
He has handed over this weapon along with ammunition to the police saying that this weapon was in a garbage dump near his house.
He has said according to the information provided by his personal informant, he found this weapon in a garbage heap.
After handing over this weapon, it has been revealed that this weapon belongs to the Police Department during an inspection through its serial number.
This weapon was issued to the Trincomalee Police Division on November 17, 1988.
The police say that they have received important information about this weapon falling into the hands of the retired SSP and that they are investigating how the missing weapon came to Moratuwa after it was issued to the Trincomalee Police Division.
