SC: Only urgent cases till Sept 3

On the direction of the Chief Justice, the Supreme Court has decided to extend the decision to take up only urgent cases in open Court due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic until September 3.

The Registrar of the Supreme Court issuing a statement said that the urgent cases required to be taken up in open Court could be summoned after a motion is filed in Court and the proceedings will commence at 11.00 a.m.

It further states that the litigants will not be permitted to enter the Superior Courts Complex, unless permission has been obtained from the relevant presiding Judge, and that all attorneys must adhere to the Covid 19 Health Guidelines and no more than 25% of the seating capacity is permitted in Court at any given time.

The statement issued by the Registrar of the Supreme Court further states that attorneys should enter a courtroom only when the case is being heard and that all documents related to the proceedings can be handed over to the Registrar’s Office during workdays from 9.00 am to 12.00 noon.
