Schaffter’s death: Forensic medical committee to analyse facts
The five-member forensic medical committee appointed to determine the cause of death of the Director of Janashakti Group, Dinesh Schaffter, has started a two-day discussion at the Faculty of Medicine of Peradeniya University. The aim of the discussion started yesterday (23) and scheduled to be held today (24) will analyze the facts found so far.
Prof.Dinesh Fernando, Forensic Medical Consultant, Department of Forensic Science, University of Peradeniya, Asela Mendis, Forensic Medical Consultant, Forensic Science Department, University of Colombo, U.C.D. Perera, Forensic Medical Consultant, Forensic Science Department, Ruhunu University, former Forensic Medical Expert of Kandy Hospital S.Sivasubramaniam and P.R.Ruwanpura, Forensic Medical Consultant of Karapitiya Hospital, Galle represent this five-member committee. The committee will discuss and decide whether Schaffter’s death was a suicide or a murder and inform a final decision.
The body of Schaffter was exhumed and a post-mortem examination was conducted at Karapitiya Hospital again and the purpose of the two-day discussion is to review the reports and facts received so far.Several rounds of further discussions are scheduled to be held in the near future.
