Scoring Bradby Shield’s first minute try was my greatest moment, says Dilshan
Janidu Dilshan played School Rugby as a crack centre three quarter for his alma mater Royal College Colombo in the inter school rugby championship, Then he went on to represent the Sri Lanka national under 19 fifteen a side rugby team in the Junior Rugby Asiad and Sri Lanka national under 19, seven a side team with distinction. He also had the luxury of representing both Sri Lanka senior nationaL fifteen a side and seven a side teams.
He then represented CR & FC and presently turned out for CH and FC in the inter club rugby tournament as an exceptional centre. Speaking to Daily News Janidu said “I was a very active kid and I was very keen on trying every possible thing that I could and that being a reason I’ve entered the world of sports and I’ve done so many sports since I was a kid. And seeing all the senior students who did sports encouraged me more to become a sportsman”.
“ I have been guided and supported by lot of people. My mother is my biggest supporter and my backbone. And I would like to mention all the coaches, trainers, my schools, my friends and my beloved fans if not for them i wouldn’t have come this far as a rugby player as well as a person.
Hence I’m always grateful to all of them“.
“Since my childhood I have done Athletics, Cricket, Volleyball & rugby. The main reason behind me choosing rugby is because of ‘Sumana miss’ who dragged me into Rugby practices after a small fight we had in school when I was in grade 7. And after that I saw my passion in rugby and I chose to walk in this path. That eventually made me to choose rugby. Hence i thought it was the most suitable game for me”.
“Throughout my entire life my top priority is always my family, it is at the top of my priority list and the second is Rugby which is my sport”. “My favourite singer is ‘Smokio’ and my favourite song is – At my worst”. “When speaking of the unforgettable incidents I must mention these two incidents. One is that I was able to score a try in the very first minute for my beloved School Royal in the history of Bradby Shield which is played between Royal and Trinity in 2016 and the second is the day that I got selected to National 7’s team. Hence those incidents will always be in my memory throughout my life as one of the most unforgettable incidents to date”.
“The most favourite among my leisure time activities are travelling because I love sightseeing and also playing mobile games and watching TV series is also among them”.
“My favourite movie is Chennai Express and my favourite actor is Vijay Chandrasekhar.I like Galle and it’s my favourite destination”. “ The greatest accomplishment so far in my life is being able to play for and to represent my motherland.To date I cherish that moment very much”.
“In life I don’t compare myself with anyone else. I’m trying to become a better person for myself”.
“My favourite rugby player is Damian McKenzie – the full back of the New Zealand All Blacks national rugby team”. “The best compliment that I got so far is – If you focus on what you do then no one can stop you from being one of the best rugby players in the country”.
“Of course Yes, I’m more than happy with all the things that I have achieved so far. And there is a lot more targets that have personally to be achieved in the future and I trust that I will achieve all of them and I’m trying my very best to do that.”.
On a concluding note Janidu said “No, I never settle for less, I some how achieve the things that I want to achieve, according to my own timeline”.
