Sergeant arrested over brutally assaulting woman, handcuffing her
Officers of Wattala Police have arrested a Police Sergeant working at the Ja-Ela Police Station for brutally assaulting a woman after handcuffing her.
Hearing the screaming of a woman from the direction of the room where charges are filed the Wattala Police OIC had inquired about it. He had seen a handcuffed woman with a bleeding wound from her forehead.
On further inquiry, it had been found that a police officer who is not from the Wattala Police station had assaulted her. Inquiring about it, it has been found that the said officer is a Sergeant and working at the Ja-Ela Police Station. He had been working in Wattala Police sometime back. It has also been revealed that a friendship had developed between the officer and the woman at that time.
This officer had pawned his trishaw and had given her Rs.400,000 after she requested the money due to a financial difficulty.The investigation revealed that this woman was preparing to go abroad as a domestic yesterday (16) evening. It is said that the police officer who came to know about this asked her for money and she expressed her willingness to give a part of it and said that she would pay the rest later.
It had been decided to carry out the money transaction near the relevant financial institution located in Wattala.
The police officer had come there in uniform.The police said that there was an argument between the two with the police officer demanding the entire amount. It had gone too far and the officer had beaten her and brought her to the police station in handcuffs. The suspect is to be produced before courts.
