Seventeen injured as bus topples in Padiyathalawa

A bus carrying pilgrims to Kataragama from Kilinochchi skidded off the road and toppled into a 20-feet slope injuring 17 individuals at Galode area in Padiyathalawa last morning.

The accident had happened due to the recklessness of the driver speeding in the heavy rain experienced in the area, Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said.

The injured have been admitted to the Maha-Oya hospital and of them four individuals have been transferred to Batticaloa hospital for further treatment.

Police have arrested the bus driver over the accident.

Padiyathalawa police is conducting investigations.
