Sri Lanka agrees to issue ‘All Country’ passports to Mandapam campees
The Sri Lankan Government has agreed to provide passports under the All Country status for Sri Lankan Tamils living in several camps, including the Mandapam refugee camp in Tamil Nadu, India.
Around 2,678 Tamils living in camps in India will be entitled to these passports. During the war in 1992, this group fled from the Northern Province as refugees and sought refuge in India, but many of them had left without birth certificates and other identity documents.
Due to this, considering the difficulty in obtaining passports, the Sri Lankan Government has taken steps to provide them with passports so that they can travel to other countries.
