Teachers’ TU action will continue if no solutions found – CTU

The ongoing trade union action of the teachers will be continued if the Government fails to provide an acceptable solution through a Cabinet Proposal today (2), President of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union Priyantha Fernando said.

Speaking to the media in Anuradhapura on Saturday, Fernando said the Government had promised to move a Cabinet paper with regard to the salary anomalies of school teachers today.

“The Government must solve this issue. We request those who are responsible to provide us with a fair solution for this issue. We won’t allow them to drag this any further,” he added.

Fernando said at present there are a large number of stakeholders taking part in this protest campaign and it is expected to obtain the support of the University Lecturers Union and the Non-Academic Staffers’ Union as well.

Stating that the ongoing protest campaigns will further be strengthened until they achieve their demands, Fernando also said that the Government should bear the responsibility for the interruption caused to the students’ education.
