Three including Police Sergeant killed in three-wheeler crash

Three persons including a Police Sergeant were killed in a fatal accident that took place on Tuesday (4) night at Yalabowa, Nugayaya, Wellawaya. Another person had sustained injuries. 

The accident had happened when a cab plying from Wellawaya to Thanamalwila collided head on with a three-wheeler coming in the opposite direction.

The driver of the three-wheeler, his wife, father and 11-year-old child had been injured in the accident and admitted to the Wellawaya Hospital. The driver, his wife and father had succumbed to their injuries later.

The driver of the three-wheeler was a 42-year-old police sergeant, a resident of Wellawaya Paragasamankada, deployed at the Thanamalvila Police, and the deceased’s wife was 42 years old and his father was 70 years old, the police said. During investigations it had been revealed that at the time of the accident, the driver of the three- wheeler had been drunk and did not possess a valid driving licence either.

According to the police, further investigations are being carried out under Wellawaya Police OIC, Chief Inspector T. M. Karunatillaka.
