The eight year old Tiana came stole the limelight at the last week’s open tournament and she was able to beat more senior players to improve her rank from fourth place to one and it is a huge achievement and especially she also can play one more year at this age group said Thilina Piyadasa who is also the one of the coaches of promising paddler Tiana.
Two months ago Thilina’s eldest daughter Tashiya won the girls under 11 title at the US National championship and this time her sister Tiana came up to become rank one player at the under 10 age group. Here in USA all tournaments at State level are very well organized and the players can get ranking points for each tournament. It is always a big boost for the paddlers to come up said proud father Thilina Piyadasa.
“Actually, both my daughters had followed our training as well as our matches from their early ages but we never pushed them to come to this sport. They are very keen to play with us from the beginning of their career.” This is their beginning,” said Piyadasa who is currently based in the US with his family in California.
“Both my daughters are currently training at the California TT Club in Rosemead, which is owned by the former Chinese Olympic Silver Medallist Jun Gao” he stressed. My wife former National champion Rifkha Kameel is always with my daughters to encourage them .
“My eldest Tashiya has already indicated that her dream is to represent America and my younger daughter Tiana is also very keen to move forward,” Piyadasa emphasised. We all like to see both of them represent US team in the future.
Thilina appointed USA junior coach. The eldest Tashiya already in USA junior team and she is expected to take part at Pan American championship in Ecuador in October while I have been already appointed USA junior coach for that tour and it’s rare honour to me as a Sri Lankan former National champion said Thilina Piyadasa .
“Both my daughters dedication to this sport is very high from the beginning which is the secret of their success. Especially the present coach Jun Goa the former Chinese Olympic silver medalist gives guidance to them while my self and former National champion Udaya Ranasinghe are also coaching my daughters .
“Here in USA from junior level there is a very high standard in this sport as well as very competitive. This always encourages paddlers to come up with their skills.I always appreciated my TT coaches Sunil Abeygunasekara ,Rahal Abeyratne and L.B Dissanayake they all gave good support me to come a long way in this sport .Today they all are very happy with my progress here in USA concluded Thilina Piyadasa.
