This is a programme being implemented by the Urban Development and Housing Ministry and the Urban Development, Coast Conservation, Waste Disposal and Community Cleanliness State Ministry under the guidance of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The 100 towns for the programme have been selected covering all the 25 administrative districts and each town will be developed at a cost of Rs. 20 million. Accordingly, the total cost for the programme is Rs. 2,000 million.
From the Kurunegala District alone, where the programme is launched eight towns have been selected to be developed. They are Alawaa, Bowatta (Bingiriya), Makandura, Hiripitiya, Kobeigane, Ambanpola, Hettipola and Katupotha. Providing the public with similar urban facilities and thereby improving their living condition is the main purpose of this programme.
Removing the illegal constructions on roads, Renovation and building of the pavements and drainage systems, setting up parking facilities, jogging tracks, renovation of bus stands, replacing street lamps, children’s parks and renovation of the roundabouts are included in the development programme.
