Two arrested for issuing fake quarantine certificates

Police Media Spokesperson SDIG Ajith Rohana stated that an Assistant Agriculture Director and an Agriculture Instructor have been arrested for issuing fake quarantine certificates to release a container of dried areca nuts imported from Indonesia in August 2020.

SDIG Ajith Rohana further stated that the complaint had been made by the Sri Lanka Customs and accordingly the Criminal Investigations Department initiated investigations. Then, the CID recorded several statements in this regard.SDIG Rohana said the officials had issued quarantine certificates without inspecting the containers physically. The CID is conducting further investigations.
