UNP hopes for favourable reply from Govt. on 21 proposals

United National Party (UNP) Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene said he hopes that the Government will consider the 21 proposals submitted by his party as solutions, in the face of the situation where every sector of the country has collapsed because of the COVID pandemic.He was speaking to the media yesterday (13). Wijewardene said that at a moment when the country is facing a grave situation, the intention of the UNP is not to act against the Government but to contribute towards helping the country overcome the problem it is facing.

“Although all parties in the Opposition are criticizing the Government’s actions, no party has submitted an alternative plan to solve the prevailing problems in the country.”The Deputy UNP Leader said that Ranil Wickremesinghe has always put forward an alternative.

Wijewardene speaking further said that the only party that has a plan to move the country forwards is the UNP and while criticizing the Government, they have submitted a plan as well.

“If the Government wants to, they can implement that plan,” he said.

The Party is not considering the loss to the UNP but the loss being experienced by the people and that is why Ranil Wickremesinghe continuously declared that the Presidential Task Force be dissolved and the Corona Control Procedures be taken under the Cabinet. If the people benefit from an advantage due to what we are saying, the UNP will stand up for it,” Wijewardene said. He also said that Ranil Wickremesinghe does not have any personal problem with the Army Commander and what he wanted was to halt the deaths of people from COVID-19.

Wijewardene said that the people will realize the truth later. He further said that if the Suwaseriya programme and the Army Radiation Force established by Ranil Wickremesinghe then were not there now, it would not have been possible to face the COVID-19 pandemic.
