UNP will rebuild economy – Vajira

The country’s economy which has collapsed would definitely be rebuilt under a UNP Government and the required plans are already being prepared by party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, said United National Party (UNP) Chairman Vajira Abeywardena.

He was speaking during a media briefing held yesterday (06) at the main UNP office, Galle.

He also said that the UNP always worked together with the international community. We have to work closely together with India. This country cannot be rebuilt by manufacturing various items and selling them inside the country on behalf of 25 million people living in Sri Lanka. We have to work together with India regarding our imports and exports and transporting of goods. The visit of the

Indian Foreign Secretary is very important. We have to compare the economies of Sri Lanka and India through cordial talks and see how we can work together. If not, there will be no future for Sri Lanka.

In this country we spend 1 million dollars on sugar daily. At the same time if one individual consumes a quarter of a loaf of bread it costs us 01 million dollars for wheat flour per day. It is 10 million dollars per day for fuel and one million dollars per day for milk powder.

“During the 4 ½ years we ruled the country, Ranil Wickremesinghe together with the international community raised Sri Lanka in the face of the world. By April, May and August of next year when the country collapses, people will be down in the dumps and I believe the public will be able to realize the targeted programme we carried out through our government from 2015,” he added.
