Woman who cheated promising jobs in Japan arrested

A 65-year-old woman, a resident of Minuwangoda who cheated money by saying that she would find jobs in a factory in Osaka, Japan, for people, has been arrested by the special investigation division of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, on Thursday (8).

The Bureau had received a complaint that the woman had promised to provide employment in Japan and obtained Rs.1,075,000.00 from two people but had not done so, and the complainant had also brought the woman involved to the Bureau.

The suspect was arrested for recruiting persons for foreign jobs without a valid license and obtaining money. She had been detained at the Talangama Police Station yesterday and then produced before the Colombo No.5 Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The Bureau urges job aspirants to get information before giving money to any organization or person for obtaining foreign employment, and to find out whether the agency has a valid license

to recruit people for foreign employment and whether the agency has received the related job order even though it is a valid employment agency, either by visiting the website of the bureau
