Wellampitiya Police said two unidentified men on a motorcycle shot at a gym instructor near the Umagiliya Stadium in Wellampitiya yesterday (12) afternoon, but the gun did not go off and he escaped unharmed. Police stated that a 31-year-old resident of Wellampitiya Sri Anandarama Mawatha was the target of the shooter.
This gym instructor was near the Umagiliya stadium to meet some friends when two men wearing white colour helmets and black jackets came on a black motorcycle and shot him.
Police investigations have revealed that the shooters fired the firearm twice, but as it did not fire, they fled towards Obeysekerapura on their motorcycle.
It has also been revealed that the instructor’s sister was threatened to be killed by an organized criminal named Kandagama Deniya Gedera Pradeep Sandaruwan alias Kolonnawe Chandana recently due to a drug dispute.
It has been revealed during the police investigation that the threatened party is selling drugs of an organized criminal and drug dealer Dematagoda Chaminda’s friends. It is the immediate cause of the death threat and shooting.
