Two most outstanding Netball players Phinitha Nanayakkara and Thilini Sewwandi both from Campbell Playground were adjudged ‘A’ and ‘B’ division Netball Queens and received special awards at the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Sports and Recreation Department awards ceremony held at Multy Propose Center at Colombo 15 recently.
Sports and Recreation Department of CMC organised this awards ceremony to felicitate athletes of the Colombo Municipal Council region while Badrani Jayawardena the Commisioner of CMC was the chief guest at this occasion.
Community Centres and Playground players who engaged at Sports Community Centres took part at tournaments received their awards while Shashini Jayaneththi the Director Sports of CMC and Senior Sports officer Chandana Perera were the heads of this organising committee and 57 Community Centres and 19 playgrounds were managed by CMC took part.
Some of the players of CMC today have achieved International recognition and they won several medals and trophies to get honor to the country, added Badrani Jayawardena the Commisioner of CMC.
M.S.M Fazloon and M. Shlan from Ratnam Playground were adjudged under 14 and under 16 best football players while M.H Hillmy and H.B S.P Kukatilleka were adjudged Carrom best men’s and women’s players.

Basketball: Under 17 -Thuwan Shafan of Stanley Jansz Playground, Under 20 – Sanjith Shanmugaraja of Kochchikade Community Centre, Open – Senrhuran Thevarajan of Cooray Playground
Bodybuilding: Champions: A.T Robinson of Nithiraja Community Centre, Mohammed Fazal Dematagoda Community Centre
Best Powerlifter: D.L Samantha of N.M Perera Community Centre
Cricket: Man of the Match – A. Arun Prakash of Peterson Playground
Elle : Men’s Man of the Match. J. Nilukshan of Wistwike Playground
Women of the Match – Lakmini Rasanjali of Peterson Playground
Table Tennis: Girls junior team Best Paddler – Surani Dhanushika of Elliot Community Centre
Boys junior Best Player – Sawan Induwara Pieris of Bandujeewa Community Centre
Open men’s senior Best Player – Dinesh Viduranga Perera of Bandujeewa Community Centre
Open women’s senior Best Player – Pradeepa Dilrukshi of Elliot Community Centre
