S. Thomas’ were struggling at 87 for nine in their first innings on the second day of the 142nd Battle of the Blues Inter-School Big Match against traditional rivals Royal College, at the SSC Grounds in Maitland Place yesterday.
After a complete washout on the first day of the match, Royal came out firing on all cylinders as they entirely dominated the rain-curtailed second day with a magnificent bowling performance.
In fact, the Thomians slumped to 48 for eight at tea from 26 overs before Yasiru Rodrgo and Mahith Perera rescued them with a ninth wicket stand of 38 runs.
Paceman Sonal Amarasekera did the early damage with a superb three-wicket burst while Gishan Balasooriya ran through the S. Thomas’ middle order with a four-wicket haul.
